At Inspired Spine, we always recommend the least invasive treatment appropriate for your condition. Our “conservative treatment path” starts with 3 to 6 months of noninvasive therapies, including physical therapy, NSAID medication, chiropractic care, yoga, and other alternative therapies.
When there are no signs of neurological symptoms, Physical Therapy (PT) and over-the-counter (OTC) pain medications are the most commonly recommended therapies for back pain lasting between 2 to 6 weeks. A typical PT program for back pain will combine active and passive components designed to decrease pain and improve function.
A typical PT program for back pain will combine active and passive components designed to decrease pain and improve function. Passive physical therapy are exercises that the physical therapist performs on you to help reduce pain or make it more management until you can become more active. Examples of passive PT include heat and ice application, ultrasound therapy, and TENS therapy.
Active physical therapy are the exercises you perform yourself that stretch and strengthen the spine and back muscles. Active PT can not only to improve immediate function but also to provide a maintenance program to prevent future recurrences of back pain.
