Inspired Spine Celebrates 300 OLLIF Spinal Procedures

The Oblique Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion (OLLIF) technique is a revolutionary new spinal fusion technique that reduces time, costs, and risks.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) April 19, 2016 — Inspired Spine, a Minnesota-based spinal surgery technological developer, has performed 300 procedures using their revolutionary Oblique Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion (OLLIF) technique and advanced minimally invasive system. This new method is transforming the way spinal surgeries are approached and can replace more typical spinal fusion surgeries.

The OLLIF Technique is a minimally invasive spinal lumbar surgical technology. It eliminates the necessity for long surgical incisions, and does not require cutting of the patient’s bone or muscle tissue to access the spine.

“Inspired Spine has taken it as a core company mission to educate the public around spinal health, and their access to optimal surgical techniques” stated an Inspired Spine spokesperson. “The OLLIF procedure provides enhanced, predictable, quality clinical outcomes for patients.”

The OLLIF procedure boasts reduced time under anesthesia; the surgery can be performed in as little as 40 minutes. Additionally, the minimally invasive nature of OLLIF reduces post-surgical recovery time. Patients are up and walking in as little as two hours in some cases. That reduced recovery time also allows patients to be discharged on the same day as the procedure. Patients can also return to work in days, not months as is required with traditional spinal surgery.

Due to its significantly diminished need for time and resources, the OLLIF reduces the cost of what has traditionally been very expense surgical procedure. A 2015 economic study on the OLLIF demonstrated that a hospital saves $9,570 on average when an OLLIF procedure is performed in place of the more typical open spinal fusion surgeries (1).

Inspired Spine has been collecting data on the 300 OLLIF procedures for a landmark study which will be published this year. None of the 300 surgeries performed resulted in any clinically significant post-surgical infections.

Inspired Spine is hosting surgeons from Europe, South America, and Asia, as well as Minnesota-based orthopedic and neurosurgeons this June. The gathering will aim to spread awareness of, and ability to perform, this innovative new technique. The reduced cost of the OLLIF procedure, and greatly reduced infection rates, has made the OLLIF an obtainable option for people around the world who suffer from spinal disease and pain. Within five years, this minimally invasive technology should replace all traditional—and now outdated—spinal procedures.
