A spine surgery consultation with a qualified spine specialist is a great way to survey your treatment options if you’ve been diagnosed with a spine condition or injury. In this article we are going to go over a handful of things to bring to your spine surgery consultation that will help make the meeting you’re your surgeon go as smoothly as possible.
Personal Information
When you first arrive at your consultation – or perhaps even before you get to the clinic, you will need to provide some initial information about yourself. This includes your name, contact information (address, email, phone, etc.), and other identifying information.
Insurance Information
Health insurance will likely be the next thing you need to take care of before you even see your spine surgeon. Make sure you have your health insurance card and information with you on the day of your consult, as well as any necessary co-pays.
Medical History & Previous Exams
Your doctor will also want to know about your medical history, and any previous tests or treatments you’ve had. Be sure to let your surgeon know of any allergies you have, and come prepared to discuss your symptoms and treatment history.
A List of Any Questions You May Have
Your surgical consultation is your time to learn about your condition and the proposed procedure(s). Many patients tend to forget all the questions they want to ask so it’s best to write them down beforehand and bring them in to refresh your memory.
A Friend or Family Member
If you are nervous about your consultation, feel free to bring a close friend or family member with you to your appointment. This person can help reduce your anxiety and can drive you home after your consultation if you need to have had any diagnostic tests done like MRIs or x-rays.
