Supporting SI Fusion Recovery

Supporting SI Fusion Recovery

Tips to Help your Body Recover Following SI Fusion

During the procedure, your sacrum and pelvis are fused to stabilize the sacroiliac joint(s), to be strong enough for activities such as standing, walking, and running. This procedure helps to stop the chronic inflammation that irritates the surrounding nerves, eliminating your joint pain.

After having this procedure, it is essential that you do your best to support healthy recovery to continue your journey toward living pain-free.

What to Expect Following Your Procedure

At Inspired Spine, our spinal surgeons use minimally invasive techniques, allowing you to be discharged 24 hours after your procedure. Immediately following your surgery, you’ll be moved to the recovery area until you regain consciousness. After your recovery period, you will be discharged with oral medication for pain management.

Tips to Support Your Recovery

After your procedure, it is very important that you follow your surgeon’s aftercare instructions to ensure that your recovery is successful. Along with those guidelines, the following tips can help you to get back on your feet in no time:

  • Use a walker or cane to reduce stress on the Si joint.
  • Apply ice to the lower back to reduce inflammation.
  • Use a heating pad on the lower back to relieve muscle tension.
  • Follow your physical therapist’s instructions for your condition.

It is also advised that patients refrain from applying full pressure on the side that your procedure was done on for at least 3 weeks.
